Community Non-Profit Booths
#LeilaniStrong with
Kaonohi'okalani Jeremiah ~ Leilani
Community Resilience booth is about the experiences of the eruption through the arts.
Two paintings will be used to tell the stories first of all about the relationships between and ancient flow Ai'laau (forest eater) Pele (fire goddess) and Keahialaka (fire in the forest) through Hawaiian storytelling of culture and traditions. Then stories will be shared, as well personal needs and challenges of our residents and how they are rebuilding their lives.
Most have moved away and some of them still remain in Hawaii but relocated.
We have elders in the Tiny Houses in Pahoa that may need personal assistance and support.
Debra Preston will be assisting and supporting.
Debra is an energy worker and always ready to offer the gift of healing and understanding.
Kaonohi'okalani Jeremiah is a Polynesian-Hawaiian woman, born in Oahu in 1949 when Hawaii was still a territory.
She has lived on Pomaikai St. in Leilani Estates since 2005 when she completed her home, a multi-facetted dome-shaped hale. She is a poet, songwriter, musician, wood carver, community leader and create programs of all kinds.
She created Hale Ohia O Pomaikai O Puuhonua, a safe sacred place at which she hosts performing
and healing arts events and practice.
She promotes her activities through Facebook pages: “Hale Ohia O Pomaikai O Puuhonua,” “Haku Melemele Mauliola” and “Kaonohi Jeremiah.” Kaonohi is one of our wise women and part of the Grandmother’s Council at MAnaFest Big Island.
She says, “I love the land, I practice the values of the land, I support food sovereignty to feed the community and the sharing of ideas, skills and experience of living together with the aina.
I have worked in food service for 25 years and 10 years in Human Services and have many connections in the community.
I would like to assist and support the community of Puna and Leilani Estates in any way I can.
My life goal is just to BE me. Debra Preston and I share a wonderful life of manifestation, abundance and blessings.
We have two smart dogs, Kupaa and Little Paws and a clever cat named Cleo Stubbs for her short tail and Cleopatra eyes. My message to Leilani residents is to Be the Flow You Are and Practice the religion of Kindness. Aloha aina,l i ke kahi ke kani, Together we are Strong. Together we make it Happen. Together We Rise, Like the Phoenix out of the ashes.”
